but I've been pretty busy the past couple of weeks. The biggest demand on my time is that I'm renovating my living room, removing a nasty old carpet and replacing it with super swanky vinyl plank flooring.
To say things aren't going as quickly as I hoped would be an understatement.
For instance....

As I'm quite tired (and may wave the white flag tomorrow and hire me some Mexicans)...

I thought I'd relax with yet another Argentina travelogue.
As you know, I spent half of October there. Besides being at a loss as to most of whatever people were talking about, I had a bueno time. I learned quite a bit about the culture while I was there.

They're more than just bidets, you know
An interesting bit of what they do south of the equator comes from how they handle disposing of household waste. Each house has some sort of wire cage at the front of their house for garbage. They dump their trash bags in it and, a few times a week, the city (or fairies) whisks it away. Easy peasy.

Some are bigger than others. This particular one was for four homes!
While I think this is a pretty neat way of getting rid of garbage, I really can't see something like this becoming standard practice in the United States.

We tend to generate more trash.
You'd have a better chance of Americans using bidets.

Perhaps not.

We are a country of disposable everything.
ReplyDeleteYou attempted the flooring yourself? No thanks. We've had someone replace all of our floors and those Hispanics did an awesome job and in a fraction of the time it would've taken me to do it.
I'm thinking it will be the last time. A combination of being 67 and the fact that professionals can do it much more quickly and BETTER will sway me from further DIY misadventures.
DeleteDisposable culture...oh, absolutely. I'd live in Argentina were it not for my grandchildren.
This is Birgit…crazy times here. I’m going to read your other blog posts. Yes, the United States needs to catch up with most of the rest of the world and start to separate garbage…recycling. As for the bidet…I. Not sure I like water up my butt.
ReplyDeleteThere was quite a bit to like about Argentinian culture. One example, there were LOTS of people peacefully strolling the city streets of Mendoza. Try that in an American city! When I expressed surprise to our host, he said they had crime in Argentina. But, they also have garbage. Perspective is everything.
DeleteI've never used a bidet before...I'm kind of curious.
ReplyDeleteI put one in for my wife which taps into the water line and sits on the toilet seat. It uses cold water which is problematic in the winter. Getting one which also taps into hot water looks pretty easy to install. Mind you I thought putting in a floor would be easy, too.
DeleteNow, see, I wouldn't mind a bidet. But I'd have to get a professional to install it. I wouldn't even dream of installing new flooring. That's definitely something I would pay someone to do.
ReplyDeleteStubborn me thought it would be simple. Silly me.
DeleteAt least I can conceive of using the trash thing. The bidet? Too close ti Biden.
ReplyDeleteI like the trash idea, but I can’t see it working here.
DeleteThe bidet? Never used one.
